Jackson Groups Offer Free NYE Rides

Several local organizations are making sure that New Year's Eve revelers have a way to get home safely if they've been drinking.

The National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence, The McCoy House for Sober Living and American Medical Response are offering free rides to people who don't have designated drivers, WAPT reports.

AMR is providing its own ambulance drivers and six 15-passenger vans, which will take passengers homeā€”but not from party to party or bar to bar. The vans will travel "as far east as Brandon, west as far as Clinton, north as far as Madison and south as far as Terry," organizers told WAPT.

Volunteers from NCADD and The McCoy House will be on standby to take calls and ask for the caller's name, location, number of riders and their destinations. The main focus will be on bar and restaurant customers up and down State Street and in downtown. Drivers will also pick people up at private parties time permitting.

The telephone number to request a ride is 601-368-2323. The service will be offered from 11 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 31, to Wednesday Jan. 1 at 3 a.m.
