BAY ST. LOUIS, Miss. (AP) — A man who allegedly lured two brothers, ages 5 and 8, from their yard in south Mississippi and took them to his camper, where he sexually abused them and slashed the older boy's throat will be in court Jan. 12.
A hearing in Hancock County Justice Court will determine if there is enough evidence to present the case to the grand jury.
James Smith is charged with kidnapping, attempted murder, sexual battery; and resisting arrest. His bond is set at $3.5 million. It is unclear if he has an attorney.
The children were abducted Dec. 18 in Pearl River County and taken to the trailer in rural Hancock County. One boy escaped and got help. The child who was cut is in stable condition in a Mobile hospital.
