JACKSON, Miss. (AP) — Top Mississippi lawmakers are recommending a state budget that's different from Gov. Phil Bryant's on several points.

The governor proposes $6.9 million to train new Highway Patrol troopers during fiscal 2015, which starts July 1. Legislators propose no money for trooper training.

Lt. Gov. Tate Reeves says some lawmakers believe the Department of Public Safety spends too little on things troopers need, like new vehicles to replace high-mileage ones.

The Legislative Budget Committee released its spending blueprint Tuesday, weeks after Bryant released his.

Neither would fully fund the Mississippi Adequate Education Program for elementary and secondary schools, but both would give more to higher education.

The two proposals will be considered by the full House and Senate, starting in January. The deadline to adopt a budget is early April.
