Ridgeland Tornado Sirens Hacked, Now on Manual Mode

RIDGELAND, Miss. (AP) — Ridgeland Police Chief Jimmy Houston said the automated tornado sirens apparently were hacked, so—at least until Tuesday—the sirens will only be turned on manually.

Houston told WJTV that the automated system is probably 20 years old and, therefore, lacks the security of more modern systems. He says officials know that someone outside the police department set them off.

The Clarion-Ledger reported that they blared from morning to afternoon Thursday, even though no tornadoes were reported.
