The Jackson Public Schools All-City Music Festival is underway, with 866 students performing in five orchestras.

In collaboration with the Mississippi Symphony Orchestra, students participate in rehearsals over the course of three days, then perform concerts to showcase their skills. Last year, 660 students participated.

Students are divided into five orchestras: one for high-school students, one for middle-school students and three for elementary students. Instructors and conductors include JPS teachers and musicians from the orchestra who teach at JPS as part of the strings program.

Concerts will be tonight and tomorrow at Murrah High School at 7 p.m. The concerts are free and open to the public. For more information, visit the MSO website.
