Ready for the Weekend Jackson?

The Jackson Roadmap to Health Equality's Fresh Farmers' Market opened in the Jackson Medical Mall last week.

If you can't find entertainment in Jackson this weekend, you're just not looking. Start the weekend right by heading to the Underground 119 grand opening, starting with a happy hour at 4 p.m. Take a look at the feature story about the restaurant for a menu and more information. Also tonight is the Harbor House annual fundraiser at the Mississippi Agriculture and Forestry Museum, kicking off at 6 p.m. and featuring art from some of Jackson's finest artists. If neither of those events make you happy, see the other options listed on the JFP Events Calendar and Best Bets.

This Saturday is day two of Rainbow Natural Grocery's Member Day Weekend, which means co-op members get 10 percent off, storewide. It's a great time to become a member if you aren't. Saturday is also market day, with the Mississippi Farmer's Market, the Belhaven Market and the Congress Street Market offering the best of Mississippi's produce and hand-made goodies. Later, take the kids to the Jackson Zoo for the annual "Back to Zool" event starting at 10 a.m. And speaking of school, check out the back-to-school event at Sykes Park at noon with food, games and live music.

Saturday night, put on your party duds and take in the sounds on the Jackson club scene. Here's just a sampling: Rotary Downs at Martin's; the Juvenators at Fenian's; DJ Terry spinning at the Electric Cowboy; and Taylor Hildebrand at the Auditorium. Find another two dozen music options on the JFP Music Listings page, the place to look for what's happening on the Jackson music scene.

If you're looking for the perfect place to take a date for dinner, don't forget to check the JFP Restaurant Listings and the Menu Guide. If you're not having dinner out on Saturday, sleep in on Sunday, then head to one of the many Jackson restaurants for brunch.

Keep the laid-back feeling going Sunday afternoon with a stroll through the Mississippi Art Museum for the "Mississippi Invitational" or "Name Change: One Artist, Twelve Personas, Thirty-Five Years." Or, head to Ridgeland High School for a faculty performance of "Steel Magnolias at 2:30 p.m. At 5 p.m. head to Schimmel's Restaurant for the Ben Payton benefit, featuring Jackson's best blues, jazz and R&B acts. Find more Sunday happenings on the JFP Events Calendar.
