Ellington

As of today I am relocating to Atlanta to help take care of my mother, Mrs. Ruby Stiggers. This is something I must do because for many years "Miss Ruby" cared for me. She supported me in everything I ever did—high school, college, career choices and even living in Mississippi. She never judged or criticized me harshly; she just loved, prayed and encouraged me consistently.

I want to publicly thank Donna, Todd and Stephen for discovering me during the Lounge events (at Hal & Mal's) and giving me a new literary voice as a satirist by allowing me to contribute my writings to their successful publication. Special thanks go to June Hardwick, C. Liegh McInnis and Ezra Brown for hosting a wonderful going-away party for me at Seven All Arts Café on Oct. 21. Other special thanks go to Goldia Revies, Linda Jacob, the City of Jackson's P.E.G. Network staff and community television producers, the entire Jackson arts community, JFP readership, and, of course, my good friends, Wyatt and Vickie Waters, for supporting my work.

I've assigned secret agent "Sue-Doh Nem" to continue writing satire and humor columns in the style and tradition of yours truly. He's with the Ghetto Science Literary and Espionage Unit # 776 and 1⁄2.

I always knew you were a product of a good raising. You maintained good taste and stories lines in your columns although you went where few have gone before. I'm touched by your decision to see after your mom. Don't let Michael Vick nem get you involved in dog training over there! When you leave Mississippi without any tall buildings and wind up elsewhere starring at tall buildings people get ideas about you. You'll be alright though since you originally hailed from the steel city. Go Steelers.

Hey, Ken, Good luck in Atlanta. I've enjoyed reading your satire through the years. I met you a couple of times at Hal and Mal's and up in Tupelo as well, never did get over to the community tv center to check it out, kept putting it off.....oh well. I'll be looking for pieces from Sue-Doh Nem from now on, though. L.

Ken, your decision is commendable. We'll miss you, but when it comes to your mama, she's gotta come first, right? I'd probably do the same thing if I were in your shoes. I live with my mom right now, and although she is relatively young (I won't give her age because she'll shoot me), if something happened to her, I would want to take care of her, too, even if we have moments where we want to strangle each other, LOL.

Good luck Ken. I have enjoyed your reading your articles. Some people think that you must have daughters to be taken care of during old age and illness. Your mother should be proud! I have sons only and although I don't want to become a burden to either of them; its a nice thought that they are willing to help carry the cross. Good deeds and the good people who do them will not go un-noticed.
