Ellington

The Jackson rumor mill is on overdrive today about federal indictments of Mayor Frank Melton coming down in the wake of an FBI investigation that pulled several members of his administration before a federal grand jury last week. But the feds ain't talking, as they tend not to do in such cases. Until they're ready, anyway. As for Melton, he told the JFP's Adam Lynch at City Hall this afternoon that he hasn't heard a thing about a possible federal investigation of him.

Did you see the WAPT 10pm where they interviewed Melton, and he was real clear in saying that he never had any "intent" to harm anyone or anything. He said "intent" several times. Guess he thinks that since they could not prove "intent" in his other criminal trial that he can get away with anything so long as he does the crime without "intent".

We saw the same thing on WLBT. It sounds like an attorney talked to him after his quote to Adam, and he's giving a more careful, canned answer now. I'm guessing that a federal judge won't be as pliable as jolly Judge Webster when it comes to being convinced to demand that the prosecution show "evil intent."

Pikersam, you always come up with a winner. That "Who Me" link fits the scanerio, perfectly. I'm reminded of the kiddie game called, "Who Stole the Cookie From the Cookie Jar?" He's singin the well know rap, "The Witch (B) BETTA have my MONEY. Sarah O'Reilly is at the law library trying to figure out legal strategies to avoid being disbarred. Her theme song is: "Ain't Too Proud To Beg." Stephanie Parker Weaver is trying to find an office, a closet, a seat - anything/anywhere: Her theme sone is: "I SHALL NOT BE MOVED" Higginbotham is singing: "Just Walking In The Rain." Tyrone Lewis is humming "Amazing Grace and bellows out loud and clear the last line: ....."Was BLIND BUT, NOW I SEE!"

I have lived in Jackson in the past, approximately 10 years or so. I visit there often. Many!!!!! friends still there. I ran into another former Jacksonian today. She said she was scared to death to be in Jackson any more , due to the crime rate. My response to her " I am not scared of anything" All I can say is that "Thank God McMillin is the Chief Law Enforcement Officer in the county". I am calling his office if I ever need help.

Philip: I'd say the problem is that too many voters are much more impressed by image than substance. Too many people think substance is B-O-R-I-N-G and such a K-I-L-L-J-O-Y -- two thing that really tend to turn so many voters off. You all have herd the cliche that politicians are marketed like soap. We'll, this is yet another example of it. Worse yet, i think its a deeper cultural problem because it goes far beyond politics. Think of corporate managers who focus on kissing upper managements ass over measurable results. Heck, think of how many in society choose their own friends at work, at church, an at their clubs and hangouts based on colorful exciting superficiality! Do I even have to mention our lovers - and even spouses? (no offense to divorcees, but I think this may explain the root cause society's many divorces). This kind of situation is EXACTLY what you get charisma over competence and responsive government! If so many adults would stop act like they're freaking 12 year olds, then that would work wonders for our world!!

Just curious" No. Intent can be inferred. Not *everything* needs to have an intent element. In fact, the Mayor would do well to remember his misdemeanor gun nolo contendere pleas. There was no intent needed in that trial. He carried the guns, and he was guilty. No intent needed to "carry in a church, park, or school."
