The New Voters Project announced plans to try to mobilize youth voters in 6 states for the upcoming election cycle. The six states areColorado, Iowa, New Mexico, Nevada, Oregon and Wisconsin; a combined population of 2 million 18 to 24 year olds who are eligible to vote.

"The campaign will run significant voter registration drives targeting both college and non-college 18-to-24-year olds, build a professional grade voter file and use multiple methods of peer-to-peer contact to drive turnout including door to door canvassing, phone banking and precinct based mobilization."If you ask them, they will vote," said Ivan Frishberg, spokesperson for the New Voters Project-- "and we are about to directly ask 1 million young people."

"The New Voters Project will target a population of 2 million 18-to-24-year olds with a statewide peer-to-peer organizing effort. Based on decades of voter registration and mobilization experience and the research of Yale University ProfessorsDonald Greenand Alan Gerber, The New Voters Project expects turnout will increase from an average of 40% in 2000 to a turnout of 45% in the six selected states."
