Northwest Rankin senior Alecia Edney needs your help. For her senior project, she is collecting used (or new) shoes for women and children to donate to the Center for Violence Prevention, the shelter that the JFP works with to raise money. I met Alecia at the Flowood library in November when Sandy Middleton of the Center and I were on a panel about domestic violence, and she was in the audience and waited afterward to talk to me about wanting to make a difference. Peters-DeLaughter Saga: 'Told You So' Time
This past weekend, I was going through 2007 issues of the JFP looking for entries for the AAN awards. I ran into this story that Adam and Brian did last year about Faye Peterson's concerns about Judge Bobby DeLaughter's handling of one of her cases: "Peterson Demands Equal Justice". It seems that JFP story is included in case filings, raising questions about DeLaughter. According to the Folo blog, the motion in Eaton Corp. v. Frisby says the following:

BREAKING: Melton, Bodyguards Back in Upper Level
Club-goers are reporting that Mayor Frank Melton, and an entourage including bodyguards, Dets. Michael Recio and Marcus Wright, arrived at the Upper Level nightclub in Jackson close to 2 a.m. todaySunday, Feb. 11. The mayor arrived in a black Chrysler, witnesses say, along with several JPD police cars. There are reports that Chief Shirlene Anderson was among the entourage, but her presence could not be confirmed Sunday.

NOW Clinton Is Worried About Young Voters?
Since Barack Obama proved that the under-30 vote mattered in Iowa, and could well be a deciding factor in the presidential election, Hillary Clinton is adjusting her strategy to start trying to appeal to them. Does she really think that young voters are going to fall for that when it's obvious she's doing it just to get their vote? If she cared about them, she would have shown it already. This shows exactly why I'm not a Clinton fan—she is a political machine, who cares more about strategy then getting out there and really getting real with the voters. I'm fully on the Obama wagon now. This did it for me, not that I needed much of a nudge.
Anti-Immigrant Rhetoric Leading to Violence Against Latinos
The Southern Poverty Law Center is warning that the vitrolic anti-immigrant debate is, predictably, starting to spill over into violence against Latinos. And as we've seen right here on the JFP site, and in local Democratic campaigns, the ugliness is not just limited to white supremacists and other extremists like the John Birch Society, or even the right wing of the Republican Party. The rhetoric by many so-called "progressives" is mirroring the claims of the extremists:

Theater of the Beef-Plant Absurd
Can we just call the beef-plant debacle what it is: a foolish bipartisan embrace of a corporate-welfare scheme gone awry? Both Dems and Republicans pushed for it, and Barbour wrote a letter in support of it. It was stupid and wasteful. Let's stipulate that. All I want to hear is how all these yucks are going to keep such a thing from happening again, instead of a bunch of blame flowing every direction when it's obvious that people of both parties were snookered and hogtied.
Classic iTodd – Emmy-winning TV Show Now on YouTube
We got word today that a fan of Todd's old TV show—"Disk Doctors" on Knowledge TV, along with co-host Steven Sashen—has posted several of the shows on YouTube. Todd started doing the show, which was taped in Denver, not long after we met in Colorado Springs, then he'd fly back to do shows after we moved to NYC. Enjoy these four old episodes.
