The Best In Sports In 7 Days

Unlike some formerly employed sports writers, there is no doubt I am a real person. Now, being a good writer—that is up for debate.

The Best In Sports In 7 Days

This past Saturday was one of the best sports days this year. I'll Have Another, the San Antonio Spurs, Chelsea in the Champions League Final and the Oklahoma City Thunder all had big comeback wins.

Just What I Needed

This Sunday, many of us will take time to honor our mothers. Mother's Day is the one day every year when we try to thank mom for everything she has done and continues to do for us.

The London Olympics are quickly approaching. The games start July 27. Lolo Jones from the U.S. could be a star as a female 60- and 100-meter hurdler.

Mark's Man Cave

When my brother-in-law, Mark, and his wife, Cathryn, were looking for a house a few years back, he knew that she would decorate it as she saw fit. Fortunately, the house they wanted to buy also had a 23-by-11-foot workshop that Mark instantly claimed like an explorer planting his flag on new territory. Mark and Cathryn got the house, and laid plans for Mark to have a man cave.

The ‘Smalls'

The Jackson area schools that aren't major contenders in Mississippi college basketball are known as the "small" schools. But they're only small in enrollment, not in talent, drive or determination.

Suck for What?

ESPN talking heads are fond of the phrase "Suck for Luck," shorthand for the idea that NFL teams would tank games to draft Stanford quarterback Andrew Luck.

Blues Marathon Offers Multiple Categories

If you are going to run a marathon in January in Jackson, you better dress in layers and expect any type of weather. The 5th annual Mississippi Blues Marathon Saturday, Jan. 7, might be the brisk start to your new year.

The Best In Sports In 7 Days

For the second week this season, we have football every day of the week.

Support the Teams

A journey that began this summer is coming to an end. For six teams, the journey will end in triumph. Six other teams will have their dreams end in Jackson.

JFP Bowl Schedule: Week 1

No JFP Top 25 football poll this week. Instead we are going to give you a weekly schedule of college bowl games coming up and Bryan Flynn's picks for the winners. Use this to plan your bowl-watching schedule beginning this Saturday until next Thursday.

Mississippi Teams Go Bowling

Two Mississippi college football teams are going bowling this year: Mississippi State University and the University of Southern Mississippi. Both the Bulldogs and the Golden Eagles fell short of expectations, but they are getting an extra month of practice time.

JFP Top 25: Week 15

It is sad to say, but this is the last JFP Top 25 college football poll; that is, the final poll until after the national championship.

Bulldogs Need Some Bite

In the preseason, I picked UM to go 5-7, but five wins might be hard to reach at this point. With a season record of 2-5 and games to play against Auburn and LSU, it seems unlikely Ole Miss will make a bowl game. They are still alive, but they can only afford to lose to LSU and have a postseason chance.

Favre for JSU?

An interesting piece of news came out of the Mississippi State bowl practice the other day: Redshirt freshman quarterback Dylan Favre is leaving Starkville. Favre says his plan is to attend Pearl River Community College next semester. Nothing is wrong with playing at a junior college, but another option might help Favre and another team.

Pink Slip Anonymous

It looks like Houston Nutt is getting the ax after the Egg Bowl. Nutt had great success early at the University of Mississippi, but he has struggled the last two seasons. Not being able to find a quarterback might be what doomed Nutt, or maybe it was a fractured fan base and unreal expectations that killed this marriage in just four seasons.

Sustain This

I hate buzzwords. I hear them all the time when watching the news or political programs. If you work for a corporation, you are sure to hear buzzwords around the office. I listen for new buzzwords, almost like a hobby.

The Best In Sports In 7 Days

I am dreaming of a New Orleans Saints vs. Tim Tebow Super Bowl.

JFP Top 25: Week 12

This past weekend really shook up the college football world. Oregon spanked Stanford at home, and a kicker betrayed Boise State for the second year in row. Now college football is one loss away from a great debate and two losses from total chaos.

Ole Miss looks to have caved in to the faceless "Forward Rebels" bloggers.
