PERS is the state Public Employees Retirement System, which has been a target for cost cutting in the Mississippi Legislature, according to the site.
"Some Republican legislative leaders announced last week that they would be drafting a bill to freeze the Cost of Living Adjustment for PERS recipients," the site states. "Democrats in the Legislature quickly announced their solid opposition to these efforts."
