CARA Needs Your Vote for a $25,000 Grant

Community Animal Rescue & Adoption, or CARA, is a non-profit, true “no-kill” animal rescue organization that cares for hundreds of abused, unwanted and stray animals in the Jackson metropolitan area. Since 2001, CARA has re-homed over 6000 companion animals. The primary goals of CARA are to: 1) place adoptable animals into loving, caring homes, thereby enhancing the bond between people and animals; 2) support spay/neuter programs; and 3) promote responsible pet ownership by educating the community on the benefits of ensuring the proper care of pets.

Now Bree’s Bark Park and CARA need your “assist” by voting them to the top and bringing money to Jackson. From April 4 through April 22, anyone who has the free State Farm Neighborhood Assist™ Facebook application can vote for CARA to help bring $25,000 to Jackson.

The State Farm Neighborhood Assist grant will be used to build an off-leash dog park on CARA Property (960 N. Flag Chapel Road in Jackson) to provide shelter dogs and other dogs in the community an open play and training area to get exercise, become more socialized, interact with potential adopters, and learn agility skills. Bree’s Bark Park will be the first dog park in the Jackson metropolitan area.

State Farm Neighborhood Assist, a youth-led philanthropic program that empowers communities to identify issues in their neighborhood, received 3,000 submissions . At least one cause was received from every eligible state, district and province in the United States and Canada. Then, the State Farm Youth Advisory Board, a diverse group of 30 students who are passionate about social responsibility, reviewed the cause submissions and selected the 200 finalists based on criteria they created.

Once the Youth Advisory Board selected the top 200, the program connected each cause with a local nonprofit that can help solve the problem. Forty-three states and Canadian provinces have causes in the top 200.

CARA has until April 22 to rally votes in the Jackson area, with anyone voting allowed up to 10 votes per day. On April 29, the top 40 vote-receiving causes will be announced on the Facebook app and a $25,000 grant will be awarded to the affiliated nonprofits.

“We are so grateful to the State Farm Youth Advisory Board for this wonderful opportunity to improve the health and well-being of our dogs and other dogs in the community,” said Janet Madden, Shelter Director.
