GULFPORT, Miss. (AP) — The Mississippi Rollergirls are looking for a new place to skate.

Since 2006, the Harrison County Skate Park in Gulfport has been the home of the Mississippi Rollergirls.

The team uses the facility to practice their roller derby skills and host their home games.

The team's vice president and captain said getting the news that they have to relocate for the rest of their season came as a surprise.

"I wish we would have had more notice to make arrangements, but it is what it is. This is what's happening and we're not going to let it get us down," Vice President Ashley Adams told WLOX-TV in Biloxi.

The Harrison County Board of Supervisors has said the skate park is costing the county thousands of dollars a month and isn't generating enough revenue. The county is now negotiating with a company to convert the property into a sound stage, forcing the Rollergirls to relocate.

"We're not happy about it. We'd love to be able to stay here, but we're going to move on and find somewhere else and try to be involved in a new community, and just keep playing our game," Team Captain Holly Bribwell said.

"Our team is still going to be the same, it's just going to be in a new building."

Mississippi Rollergirls was founded by Victoria "Vikki Six" Conway in 2006 and was the first flat track derby league in the state. The Rollergirls are part of the Women's Flat Track Derby Association.

Adams said the team is looking for a new facility and they're hoping the public can help.
