4 Miss. Schools Earn Blue Ribbon Status

JACKSON, Miss. (AP) — Four Mississippi schools have been recognized as National Blue Ribbon Schools by the U.S. Department of Education.

Lovett Elementary School in Clinton, DeLisle Elementary in Pass Christian, East Hancock Elementary in Kiln in Hancock County and Oak Park Elementary in the Ocean Springs received the honor.

The Department of Education recognizes schools based on their overall academic excellence or for making progress in improving student achievement levels.

Nationally, 236 public and 50 private schools will be honored at a ceremony in Washington, D.C. in November.

The program that began in 1982 recognizes public and private elementary, middle and high schools that are either high performing or have raised student achievement to high levels.
