Forrest Co. Launching $5M Local Road Project

HATTIESBURG, Miss. (AP) — Forrest County will get started this summer on a $5 million effort to repave about 65 miles of potholes and pitted roads.

The county will spend $3 million of its own money to pave about 40 miles. Another $2 million from the State Aid Road Fund will resurface 25 miles of roads.

The Hattiesburg American reports that the roads getting a new overlay are more heavily traveled and many are used by commuters.

Fifty-three county roads will get a new overlay.

In addition to the miles of fresh asphalt, 12 county bridges are being replaced, along with five receiving routine maintenance like sandblasting and painting.

Board of Supervisors President David Hogan says the county has saved for more than four years for the project.
