Stinker Quote of the Week: 'Charter Schools'

photo

"These Republicans want to pass charter schools, create voter-ID laws, cut Pell Grants, end Medicare and reduce Social Security benefits."

—Democratic U.S. Rep. Bennie Thompson in a radio ad announcing his endorsement for Councilman Chokwe Lumumba, attempting to paint supporters of Jackson mayoral candidate Jonathan Lee as "closet Republicans."

Why it stinks: Make no mistake about it, the Republicans have led the successful effort to expand charter schools in Mississippi and
other states.

In endorsing Lumumba, Thompson linked Republican supporters of Jonathan Lee to people who opened their checkbooks to Mitt Romney in 2012 in an effort to defeat President Barack Obama.

However, Thompson conveniently ignores the fact that Obama, the leader of his Democratic party, has been staunchly pro-charter school as well. It's a clever ad, designed to scare Democratic voters away from Lee but is less than completely honest about Obama's position on charter schools. You can't have it both ways.

President Obama does not recognized Bennie Thompson in Washington. Governor Ray Mabus is president obamas point man for mississippi. Senator Chuck Shumer (D), New York has punished Thompson for not supporting Ronnie Musgrove in his bid to become senator a few years ago. Could their have been another back door deal cut, like the one Governor Barbour and the congressman made in 2004. I was there Donna. Ask Governor Musgrove about Bennie.

Are you kidding me? Ronnie Musgrove could not even win re-election as Governor, because he fought with different factions of his own party, much less become a Senator. As for Bennie, once the House goes back to the Democrats, he will be Chairman of the powerful House Homeland Security Committee, and he is the ranking member of it now.
