JACKSON, Miss. (AP) — Dr. Camara Phyllis Jones, a family physician and epidemiologist whose work focuses on health care equity, will speak Wednesday at an annual Mississippi conference on improving community health care programs.

The 6th Empowering Communities for a Healthy Mississippi Conference was opening Tuesday and will continue through Friday at the Jackson Marriott Hotel.

Health Department officials say the conference looks at creating healthier lifestyles at home, in workplaces and in schools.

Jones is adjunct professor at the Rollins School of Public Health at Emory University and adjunct associate professor at the Morehouse School of Medicine.

Gini Tucker with DREAM Inc. will speak on prescription and over-the-counter drug abuse among teenagers on Wednesday.

On Thursday, Amy Radican-Wald with the Center for Mississippi Health Policy will speak on nutrition and the Farm Bill.
