On Jan. 5, some of the best high-school football talent descended on Orlando, Fla., for the 2012 Under Armour All-American game. This game started in 2008 under the sponsorship of athletic clothing and shoe company Under Armour. Athletes were showcased to a national television audience, and several even declared their college choice during the game.

One player did not have to declare his choice during the game. Devon Desper, senior from Madison Central High School, had already declared his intentions to Mississippi State University.

According to ESPN Scouts, Inc., Desper is the fourth best player at his position of center in the country. Desper is considered the 10th best player in the state.

At 6 feet 4 inches tall and 295 pounds, Desper helped lead Madison Central to the North Mississippi title game in the state playoffs. Olive Branch defeated Madison Central 40-35.

Olive Branch went on to defeat Petal for the 6A state championship.

Scout.com considers Desper an intelligent center who can make offensive-line blocking calls. Reading defenses and figuring out blocking assignments is considered an important part of the center position.

Scout.com highlights Desper's arm length (important for keeping defenders off an offensive lineman's body) and that he is a hard worker with a bit of a nasty streak (which coaches love in offensive linemen). Scout.com says Desper needs to work on balance and get in a college weight room as he grows into his body. MSU fans can get a look at Desper before national signing day a month from now.
