Check out Davis' attack ad on his opponent, Democrat Travis Childers. These two are vying for the seat in District 1 that Roger Wicker gave up after his appointment to the U.S. Senate by Haley Barbour (filling the hot seat Trent Lott jumped out of last fall to begin his lobbying career). Childers surprised a lot of folks by jumping out to the lead in the special election, nearly pulling off a major upset in an area assumed to be very right-leaning. Childers, considered a very conservative Democrat, is nevertheless running on a platform of economic development, healthcare expansion and "progress before politics."

The race is making national news not only because it's a potential "D" pickup after Barbour's machinations on the Lott replacement (and in a very Republican district) but it's also has caused hand-ringing for Republicans because they're forced to spend money on such safe seats.

What gets me is the whole basis of the ad in the first place. This "Childers Said Nothing" crap. What kind of argument is that? There's some evidence that Childers is leading in this thing because he *is* a conservative Democrat, but he's actually got some populist positions that could help working people in his district. Davis' platform reads like using using some MSGOP Web template and he forgot to edit the Issues page. http://gregdavisforcongress.com/issues.php Davis has something like an 8-to-1 advantage in money. And he's got all these great ideas, right? So, what kind of candidate is he who "approves this message"...and then sleeps at night? Is this the kind of candidate people really want in Washington representing them?

If I'm not mistaken, vice-president Shooter Cheney is coming to town to get involved in this race. I'm likewise hearing the republican candidate is running a commercial involving Wright and Obama. What a bunch of bullcrap. The republican party has dipped to the point of eating feces and barking at the moon to get a candidate elected now. I'm surprised Davis hasn't called Gingrich to talk about morality and fidelity, Delay to talk about playing fair, Foley to talk about why pages should be off limits to predator Congressmen, Pastor Haggard to talk about honesty and consistency, or Vitter to talk about hoes and wives, and Revern Adridge to talk about loving yourself within limits.

Man, I should have watched the commercial before commenting. What a failed piece of garbage the republican party is. They simply can't govern. On the budget level, we've got the biggest federal deficit ever. On personal liberties, they're now interfering with our bank accounts, phones lines and records, and library records willy nilly, holding detainees without trials, torturing prisoners, trying to control women's bodies, prying into the bedrooms or gays and lesbians. On a morality tip, as soon as they got the jobs or power, they started selling everything including themselves to the highest bidders. On international diplomacy or foreign affairs, they soon made us the most hated country in the world, and got everybody and every country trying to produce nuclear weapon to kill or defend against us. This catastrophe is the fault of all republicans not just Bush and Cheney. They may have had good intentions before Reagan but not with or after him. They had a "Contract on America" and we've been screwed by them. All of us! They may even be Communistic conduits for Russia and has sold the country to them.

Sad comment, from my perspective at least. The Alabama and Tennessee Democratic parties are lending aid to Childres. They are phone bankings, providing mailing lists, aiding in fund raising and volunteers. Wow another low for my Democratic Party of Mississippi. Two states bordering mine are better organized, funded, and have more information than we do in our own state, and feel so sorry for us that they help US get a Democrat elected in our own state because they see the potential and THEY HAVE THE DATA/ORGANIZATION that we talk about et never produce. I can't wait for Dowdy to step away and I pray he takes worthless that K. Sanders with him. Both talk a GREAT GAME and as far as doing anything.... NOTHING
