Ravens Rough Up Saints

The Baltimore Ravens hand the New Orleans Saints their first home loss of the season, 35-22. Take that, Mother Theresa. Steve McNair got the Ravens going, running for one touchdown and throwing for two more.

Saints looked like they'd really taken the bye week to heart, maybe spending a little too much time on Playstation? The problem was discipline and penalties, along with a questionable play call or two, like that half-back option to Bush that resulted in an INT instead of *any* points, and perhaps some momentum, at that point.

I have mixed feeling about the Saints. I want them to do well but not beat my favorite teams, Pittsburg and Philadelphia, both of which are having terrible seasons. I've been a Steelers fan since 1973. I had better wear my Steelers' jacket I've storing since 1996 before people start thinking I'm nuts for stepping out in it.

Jim Mashek of the Sun Herald in Biloxi wrote a good column for Monday's paper in which he said that the Ravens presented a blueprint for beating the Saints: Score first. Convert turnovers. Rush the passer. Hit anything that moves. Develop a swagger and take the Louisiana Superdome crowd out of the game.

I can't stand Pittsburgh, but I wanted them to beat Oakland yesterday. Once you've lived in San Diego, you grow to hate them. Anyhow, the way Pittsburgh is playing, it's gonna be a tough year for them. I do think, however, that they will be too physical for the Saints to handle. Plus, they're desperate for a win and being at home will give them some motivation, too.
