The Brunini law firm yesterday signed on with Parkway to be one of the anchor tenants in the new "Two Jackson Place" office tower to be built in downtown Jackson. The other anchor tenant is Watkins Ludlam.

Kudos to BOTH law firms, to Steve Rogers of Parkway, to Ben Allen, Margaret Barrett-Simon and the host of other folks who worked so hard on this project.

This is cool news! Good for Jackson! Now if Ben Allen could do something about the Mayor and the police chief. They are the reason violent crime is up over 100% in Precinct 4 from last year! (video link) Can we truly continue to be told by supporters and willing media that Frank Melton, his clique, and organizations are what is best for Jackson's crime problem with a straight face? Not that they had one anyway! The Council may not be able to "control" the mayor; but, there are those on the Council that continue to support a clearly horrible mayor, his outdated "friends", and his failed attempts to govern. The end does not justify the means no matter how golden a palace you build. Bye, bye stable middle class dollars. You guys have your gates and security services. Most of us still have to get by the best we can!

Just keep watching. The council is working hard behind the scenes on the crime issue to make some dramatic changes that will, at least in my judgement, be a good move for the city.

I'm weird. I'm too nitpicky. I like that patch of green in the middle of downtown. I'd rather see some of the nearby buildings that are run down or old but not historic torn down and see this erected in their stead. Oh well, I like progress, I'm just weird I guess.

actually, I think you will like the plans that Parkway has developed for preservation and, in fact, enhancement of the grossly underutilized green space in question. Think "water features" and "rose gardens."

If I understand correctly, it should utilize the big "field" of green grass beside OJP. Jubilee Jam has had stages there (Donna, think MVP and registering voters in the rain) and there was an ice rink... At least that's what I've been told. I could be wrong though. ;-)

the tsunami is not a HUGE draw for Downtown BR, but it is pretty nice. I live in the city and to be honest I think Downtown Jackson has just as much potential maybe more if all the proposed projects are completed.

I would say its a huge draw before they closed the patio. Before the patio closed it was very good draw. I know, I've been there a few times. It is still a very good draw and brings people downtown. The view can not be beat. Would be great on top of the King Edward.

are they going to get rid of the shack? I mean I'm sorry but even if that thing serves a neat food service purpose...it's tacky....It would be nice if they could design a neat food service pavillion with outdoor dining for the lunch crowd and a coffee bar.....something that works with the upscale image you guys are going for at Jackson Place. Ok... I'm done....just wanted to comment on the shack....How tall is this tower going to be? What a neat vertical urban intersection that will be now!

As I understand it, the entire block is being purchased by Parkway for comprehensive, mixed-use development which, by definition, would mean no more shack. I'm certainly anxious for more details myself; guess we'll just have to wait for the big Parkway press conference on the 16th. Maybe in Adam's spare time (if he ever gets back from the Meridian trial!), he could start snooping around and scoop a story before the 16th (hint, hint).

According to WLBT, it's an 8-story structure. Hard to believe that an 8-story building will cost $50 million. I've seen structures that are twice that tall built for about the same, and maybe even less, recently in other cities.

Millhouse maybe they meant that the law firms would occupy "eight floors" of the structure. That would make more sense. That land is too valuable for a mere eight story building. The One Jackson Place is 14 floors if I'm not mistaken.

Patiences, guys, you're gonna love the new building. Yes, it will be expensive, but it's going to be fantatistic and a new point of pride for Jacksonians. Again, thanks to Parkway, Watkins-Ludlam, Brunini, Trustmark, Ben Allen, Margaret Barrett-Simon, Jimmy Heidel, John Lawrence and on and on . . . all those and many more that have helped in the rebirth of Jackson. This is kinda funny. In the Ledger's editorial today about development (long overdue, by the way; seems like Councilman's Allen angry e-mail to the media this week worked), they applaud Jackson development. But it's kind of funny that they act like people just learned about the Ceva Green development last week when they reported it, not weeks ago when Adam broke the story in our annual development-focused overview in our birthday issue (the week after the Melton indictments). They're funny over there, but we know that already.

Good scale for that corner and will blend with One Jackson Place, the renovation of the old Bell South building and the building directly opposite Capital...and....that parking garage gets a face life...."home run".....Like the lighting feature at the top....
