Increase of Drug Use Among Teenage Girls

A Lifescript article sheds light on this issue.

Interesting quote:

Researchers suggested that adolescent girls may be more susceptible to peer pressure than boys. In addition, some estimates suggest that diet pill use among teen girls is increasing, and researchers have hypothesized that some girls may turn from weight loss pills to smoking and other drugs in a misguided attempt to control weight.

I have heard of girls using drugs to lose weight, but why is there an increase? Is it due to pressure from friends, the media, etc. to be thin? Does ethnicity play a role? How about location? What do you think?

This is sad. Now, we're hearing rumors or reports that not only was Natalie Holloway outside of the company of people who knew and loved her, she was likely hanging around with strange men or boys she didn't know, and abusing alcohol and drugs. She might have made good grade in school but obviously wasn't really smart if this is true. I'm going to be really perturbed if it turns out no one accosted and harmed her. If it turns out no one is quilty of harming her, her case should be the paradign for teaching adstinence fror drugs and alcohol. And she shouldn't be painted as some pure victim who had a bad day.
