Eric Stringfellow: Dem ticket's mayoral race needs leader to stand up

Sunday's mayoral debate, for those looking for good theater and lively entertainment, was a huge hit.

Mayor Harvey Johnson Jr. said challenger Frank Melton is just a 45-second sound bite — cheap, glitzy and slick talk.

"I can do more in 45 seconds than the mayor has done in eight years," Melton responded.

Johnson saved his best for his closing. In mimicking Melton's credentials, he borrowed Melton's signature from his days as a TV commentator. ". . . and that, my friends is the real bottom line," even stuffing his pen in his shirt pocket.
