Weekend Notes

Notes from this weekend of sports:

Belhaven quarterback Brian Zbydniewski was kicked off the team following his arrest on a felony marijuana possession charge. Two other starters were kicked off for their role in the investigation that led to the arrest, even though they weren't arrested. I guess we know now why Belhaven's nickname is the Blazers.

Indianapolis quarterback Peyton Manning (son of Archie, older brother of Eli) is advertising's favorite NFL player this season. His new MasterCard commercial debuted this weekend. It's pretty funny. Peyton turns the tables and cheers on working stiffs with the same devotion they lavish on pro athletes. Doctor S' favorite scene is where Peyton is in in the butcher shop changing, "Cut that meat!"

Did you catch the Mississippi State-Alabama game on ESPN2? The first hour of it was practically an infomerical for Sylvester Croom and MSU. The Bulldogs were getting lots of love for a 3-5 football team and it's all thanks to Sly. Enjoy it while it lasts, Bulldog Fan.

Meanwhile, the Miller beers continued their ad assault on Budweiser. The referee commercials are funny, but the ones with the bullhourn are just mystifying. Why doesn't Bud do any more funny commercials. Lately they've all been full of attractive young people hanging around a bar drinking fresh, pure Bud. Boring. How about bringing back the damn lizards?

Finally, will Ray Lewis and Terrell Owens PLEASE SHUT UP. I don't care what Owens does in the end zone after he scores a touchdown. And if the rest of the NFL doesn't like it, here's how you stop his dance routine: Don't let him score. ... Meanwhile, this week has been "he said, he said." Last week, when Owens, who plays for the Philly Eagles, imitated Lewis' celebration dance after scoring against Lewis' Baltimore Ravens, Lewis claimed that he didn't see it. He must be blind because Owens did it about 5 yards away from Lewis.

Then, during the week, T.O. said he couldn't understand why everybody hates him, since all he does is make plays and he's never been charged with murder like Ray Lewis was (those charges were later dropped). That got Lewis pissed. Then T.O. apologized. Blah, blah, blah. Turn off the cameras already. Owens, Doctor S doesn't care enough about you to hate you. And Lewis, it's a little late for you start acting like you had nothing to do with two members of your entourage killing two people in Atlanta. You might have beat that rap by ratting out those guys, but the stigma of that is going to hang over you for the rest of your life.

Concerning the BC comment... it was medicinal, Dr. S. You should know all about that stuff.
