Laremy Tunsil's Scandals Take Over First Round of the NFL Draft

Here's a quick rundown of what happened during the first round of the NFL Draft: The Los Angeles Rams made University of California quarterback Jared Goff the No. 1 overall pick, and the Philadelphia Eagles took Carson Wentz, a quarterback out of North Dakota State University, making him the No. 2 pick.

After Goff and Wentz went in the draft, all eyes fell on University of Mississippi offensive tackle Laremy Tunsil. In fact, it was a terrible night for Tunsil and got worse as the night went along.

Shortly before the draft started, a video on http://www.si.com/nfl/2016/04/28/laremy-tunsil-draft-twitter-video-bong">Tunsil’s Twitter account, http://espn.go.com/nfl/draft2016/story/_/id/15423201/agent-laremy-tunsil-gas-mask-tweet-was-hacked">which was hacked, showed someone who was wearing a gas mask. later confirmed to be Tunsil, taking hits from a bong. It didn’t take long for the video to go viral and for ESPN and NFL Network to begin discussing it and what it would mean for him.

Before the draft, Tunsil was considered to be one of the top players in the draft, and many thought he would be the first player to hear his name called. After the video got out, he began to fall down as reports came out that teams had taken Tunsil off their draft board.

Instead of being the first tackle picked, Tunsil watched as the Baltimore Ravens drafted Ronnie Stanley out the University of Notre Dame in the sixth pick, and the Tennessee Titans drafted Jack Conklin out of Michigan State University in the eighth pick.

The Miami Dolphins finally stopped http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000000656981/article/laremy-tunsil-falls-to-fins-after-video-posts-to-twitter?campaign=Twitter_atn">Tunsil’s drop by taking him with the 13th pick. Tunsil was supposed to be a top-five pick, but he didn’t even go in the top 10.

The first reports said that the video of Tunsil was five years old, but then it changed to two years old. But it didn’t matter when the video was taken. The damage was done, and it cost him millions.

The top pick in the draft will sign for about $28.5 million, and the fifth will sign for about $24 million. Falling all the way down to the 13th pick means Tunsil will sign for about $13 million.

The video cost him http://www.ibtimes.com/nfl-draft-2016-contracts-projected-salaries-all-first-round-picks-2361279">$10 to $15 million in salary in his first contract.

But his bad night wasn’t over. After the Dolphins selected him, a post on his https://www.instagram.com/p/BExCkE0Bxw9/">Instagram account showed the offensive tackle http://deadspin.com/now-laremy-tunsils-instagram-has-posted-alleged-convers-1773740002">asking a coach for money.

That post came up during his first press conference.

http://www.si.com/nfl/2016/04/28/laremy-tunsil-ole-miss-miami-dolphins-draft-money-coach?xid=si_social">A reporter asked a visibly sweating Tunsil about the conversation with his coach over money. At first he denied that it happened, but in a follow-up question, he said he did ask and took money.

The money reports said he did it to pay bills and rent. Tunsil already had to sit out games last season for the Rebels due to receiving improper benefits. The day before the draft, reports surfaced that his stepfather, Lindsey Miller, filed a lawsuit against the offensive tackle for attacking him and defaming his character last summer.

Now, the NCAA has a video of Tunsil saying he got money while playing for the Rebels. This is after the organization already sent UM notice of the allegations in January.

Tunsil, who is known for pancaking defenders, ended up pancaking the University of Mississippi football program as well. So quick recap, losers on the first day of the draft are Tunsil, the UM football program and head coach Hugh Freeze.

But he wasn’t the only player from the Rebels drafted or the only player with Mississippi ties drafted.

The Minnesota Vikings got a steal when they selected Laquon Treadwell with the 23rd overall pick. Many considered Treadwell to be the top wide receiver on the board, and he ended up being the fourth wide receiver taken. There is no telling how much his teammates' red flags caused him to drop.

Minnesota's pick gives quarterback Teddy Bridgewater another weapon and will help the Vikings' pedestrian offense. Treadwell could also help Adrian Peterson in the running game by taking some of the offensive load off him.

The Arizona Cardinals selected one of biggest boom-or-bust prospects, UM defensive tackle Robert Nkemdiche, in the 29th pick. The Cardinals have some strong leaders who can help Nkemdiche become a productive player and stay out of trouble.

If he will reach out to ones such as Larry Fitzgerald and Tyrann Mathieu, he will have a couple of good mentors. That could mean the Cardinals got a top-five talent at the end of the first round.

North Pike High School in Summit, Miss., produced the 30th pick of the draft when the Carolina Panthers selected Vernon Butler out of Louisiana Tech. He is a bit of a project but will be able to play in spots right away. By most accounts, he was considered a late first-round or early second-round pick.

Oh yeah, the New Orleans Saints made a pick as well. The team didn’t take a quarterback but did help out a defense that was terrible last season.

The Saints used the 12th pick to select defensive tackle Sheldon Rankins out of the University of Louisville. Rankins is a run stuffer who could develop into an interior pass rusher as he learns on the job. He could be a three-down player but will start off as a two-down player until he polishes his pass-rush skills.

Still, having a big body in the middle to stop the run will improve the Saints right away. If New Orleans hits on Rankins and a couple of other defensive players, this team might have a chance at the playoffs.
