NFL: Quick Thoughts & Week Six Picks

This season in the NFL has lacked week to week constancy by most teams in the NFL. That was most evident on Thursday night as the Pittsburgh Steelers lost to the Tennessee Titans.

Yes, I picked the Steelers because I thought they would beat a weaker team even with all their injuries because Pittsburgh normally plays with constancy. It seems like you know each week what the Steelers are going to bring to the table but that has not been true so far this season.

The Atlanta Falcons, Minnesota Vikings, Chicago Bears and San Francisco 49ers are about the only teams in the NFC you are sure what you are getting each and every week.

Constancy is even worse in the AFC where the Baltimore Ravens and Houston Texans are the only teams you can be sure of each Sunday. Most teams have been wildly up and down this season with most teams struggling in the middle of pack.

Even teams with horrible starts are still in the mix because so few teams have separated themselves from the main pack. There is going to be a team that makes the playoffs this year that looked dead in the water after the first month of play.

As the NFL season moves closer to the midway point it would be nice to see teams start playing with constancy each Sunday. Teams like the Green Bay Packers, Cincinnati Bengals, and any team in the NFC East and AFC East need to find their identity and play that way each week.

Every coach and team wants constancy but there are only a few that have found it five weeks into the season. If you are going to watch anything this weekend see if teams start finding themselves this week.

The teams that are able to learn and be what they are at this point in the season will have a chance to return to the playoffs. Those that stumble around in the muck all season long are doomed to be 7-9 and 9-7.

Now for this week's picks and remember winners are in bold:

Oakland Raiders at Atlanta Falcons

Cincinnati Bengals at Cleveland Browns

St. Louis Rams at Miami Dolphins

Indianapolis Colts at New York Jets

Detroit Lions at Philadelphia Eagles

Kansas City Chiefs at Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Dallas Cowboys at Baltimore Ravens

New England Patriots at Seattle Seahawks

Buffalo Bills at Arizona Cardinals

New York Giants at San Francisco 49ers

Minnesota Vikings at Washington Redskins

Green Bay Packers at Houston Texans

Denver Broncos at San Diego Chargers
