The game will be played on Saturday, August 31, 2013. ESPN Regional Television (ERT), a subsidiary of ESPN, will own and operate the game.

This game joins similar games held each year in Atlanta and Dallas to open the college football season. Mississippi State will be making their first appearance in Reliant Stadium. Neither team has played in Houston since 2009.

“This is a great opportunity for our team to open the 2013 season in an NFL stadium,” said Scott Stricklin, Mississippi State Director of Athletics. “It provides our fans a unique destination for the season opener. We have a great fan base in Texas, as well, who will be excited to see the Bulldogs play in their home state.”

These kickoff classic games normally have a national audience and will be a very nice recruiting tool for the Bulldogs this year and next year.
