Tony Yarber to JFP: 'I'm heavily considering a run' for mayor

UPDATED

I just ran into a Facebook post that hints that (a) Councilman Tony Yarber might be running for mayor and (b) that the hashtag #runtonyrun is trending.

After posting about it earlier, Yarber got back in touch with me via Facebook message, saying: "I'm heavily considering a run. I'm being encouraged by a lot of people. Most importantly, people I trust."

When asked when he would decide, he said: "There won't be an announcement right now. I'm going to watch my children do liturgical mime and dance tonight."

Meantime, here are the social-media posts, and a screenshot of the #runtonyrun tags on Twitter that seem associated with him (and I saw three on Facebook). My sense is that there may be more of an effort to take it trend.

And we're off.

Update: WJTV talked to Yarber after this post went up and he said he is "heavily considering" running for mayor, based on people encouraging him.

If Yarber runs, I think he'll immediately be among the favorites to win.

Do to the suspicious reasons Mr. Yarber resigned from JPS I feel that his candidacy would not be warranted at this time. Further Jackson would benefit greatly with a candidate who has the same organizational skills as the former Mayor Lumumba.

I completely disagree with "Newcomer". Mr. Yarber was the best city council president and Mayor Lumumba respected his (Mr. Yarber's) ability to keep the city council on topic and moving the business of the city forward. That has never been an easy task--he's the only councilmember to not give in and "play politics" by grandstanding or being absent when an important vote is on the agenda. He does his duty by the residents of his Ward and does it very well.

Tony Yarber has the talent and character to provide the same level of dedication to the entire City. He would be an asset to the City and certainly has the powerful motivational skills and leadership ability to carry out the vision of a united city that Mayor Lumumba was making a reality.
