Jackson Featured in 'Living Blues'

It's official: The Jackson music scene is front-page news.

Thanks to a grant from the Jackson Convention and Visitors Bureau, the August-September edition of renowned blues-music magazine "Living Blues" showcases a variety of significant figures from Jackson's thriving blues community, including King Edward, Dorothy Moore, Jesse Robinson, Louis "Gearshifter" Youngblood, Jarekus Singleton, Eddie Cotton Jr., jj Thames and Grady Champion, among others.

The issue also features a story on the Central Mississippi Blues Society's ongoing Blue Monday event, which takes place every Monday, and a story in which blues scholar Jim O'Neal uses the city's Mississippi Blues Trail markers as a guide through Jackson's illustrious blues history. Additionally, the issue announces the winners of the 23rd annual Living Blues Awards, in which Jacksonian Bobby Rush won the title of Best Live Performer in the Critic's Poll.

"Living Blues" is a bi-monthly music publication from the University of Mississippi's Center for the Study of Southern Culture, covering blues history and the current culture surrounding the genre. The magazine was founded in Chicago in 1970 before the UM purchased it in 1983.
