It really exists. Well, technically.
The New Horizon Church International building is in a large former shopping center located on Ellis Avenue in Jackson. Past the “New Horizon” billboard, the massive parking lot stretches on and includes several abandoned lots connected to the church.
From the main lobby, I can see a coffee shop, an office room and, a few steps around a corner, the NHCI sanctuary with rows of purple upholstered pews.
1750 Ellis Ave. is the address to the largest building, which houses not only the church, but other businesses like Sam’s Place (Suite 100), Net Counseling (Suite 150), NHCI Administrative Office (Suite 200), and Mississippi Faith Based Coalition (Suite 205).
Not mentioned on the entrance door is the recently formed Cochran-supporting super PAC, All Citizens For Mississippi, that paid for ads designed to make the Republican Cochran more appealing to black voters in the June 24 Senate Republican primary run-off against Chris McDaniel.
A sign for All Citizens for Mississippi, which was started by NHCI senior pastor Ronnie Crudup, does appear somewhere in the huge, multi-purpose building, however.
Up a flight of exposed stairs in the main lobby and in a room with many, seemingly unrelated office doors, a white sheet of printer paper is taped on a door, reading, “ALL CITIZENS FOR MISSISSIPPI SUITE 600” in what appears to be Comic Sans font.
I knock on the door. No answer.
