Affordable Care Jubilee Oct. 4

U.S. Rep. Bennie Thompson is partnering with the Jackson-Hinds Comprehensive Health Center to host an Affordable Care Jubilee on Friday, Oct. 4. The goal of the event is to educate and assist citizens with enrolling for health insurance under the Affordable Care Act, aka "Obamacare," and will feature Dr. Pamela Roshell, regional director with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

“Each day, I strive to change the picture of health in Mississippi," Thompson said in a release. "Over 500,000 Mississippians between the ages of 18 and 64 are uninsured. We must take advantage of every opportunity to educate and enroll our population. I encourage Mississippians to come out on October 4th to learn more about the benefits of the Affordable Care Act and to enroll themselves and their families.”

Americans in all states began to choose new, affordable health-insurance coverage through a new Health Insurance Marketplace Oct. 1. The Marketplace is a key provision of the 2010 Affordable Care Act. Mississippi will participate in a federally- facilitated Marketplace.

The event is at the Jackson-Hinds Comprehensive Health Center, 3502 W. Northside Drive from 1-6 p.m.
