It was a no brainer for the New York Jets to take University of Mississippi wide receiver Elijah Moore with the 34th overall and second pick in the second-round.
Walker Powell
Walker Powell shined in game two of the four-game series for the University of Southern Mississippi as he pitched a complete-game no-hitter and set a career-high in strikeouts with 12.
Tanner Allen
Mississippi State University outfielder Tanner Allen won the fan voting portion of the C-Spire Outstanding Player Awards. Tanner beat out fellow teammate pitcher Landon Sims and three players from the University of Mississippi.
Reed Trimble
USM freshman outfielder Reed Trimble will be one of the key players for the Golden Eagles in this tournament and the NCAA Tournament. In his first full season with Southern Miss, Trimble was named All C-USA First-Team and C-USA All-Freshman Team.
MSU, UM and USM Make College Baseball Regional
After being cancelled in 2020, the NCAA College Baseball Tournament returns for 2021. The field features three teams from our state as Mississippi State University, University of Mississippi and the University of Southern Mississippi each made a regional.

In a winner take all final game of the regional, the Rebels held off the Golden Eagles to win 12-9. It took some heroics from senior Tim Elko for the Rebels to advance.
MSU Reaches the College World Series
Mississippi State University didn’t have the best postseason start, as the Bulldogs were bounced quickly out of the Southeastern Conference tournament. MSU ended up being routed by the University of Florida 1-13 and the University of Tennessee 2-12.
MSU Earns Two Thrilling Wins in CWS
Fans of Mississippi State University baseball are enjoying a thrill ride at the 2021 College World Series. The Bulldogs are 2-0 in two vastly different wins and both were nailbitters that kept fans on the edge of their seat till the end.
Brittney Reese
Brittney Reese is returning to the Olympic Games for the fourth time in her historic career. Reese won her 13th career national title to punch her ticket to the Tokyo Games.

Due to COVID-19, Olympic dreams were put on hold for every athlete heading to the 2020 Tokyo Games. The wait was even longer for former Mississippi State University star Curtis Thompson.
Will Bednar
Pitcher Will Bednar has forever become a part of Mississippi State University lore. He was instrumental in delivering the first national championship in school history as the Bulldogs won the 2020 College World Series.

Fred McNair took over the Alcorn State University program as head coach on Feb. 2, 2016. The job became open after Jay Hopson left to take a head coaching job at the University of Southern Mississippi.

A handful of players in Super Bowl LVI have ties to the Magnolia State. Most played college football in Mississippi and a couple left the state after successful high-school careers to play during college.

The University of Mississippi women’s basketball team finished fourth in the conference standings during the regular season. That finish allows the Rebels to earn a double-bye in the 2022 SEC Women’s Basketball Tournament.
Mo Williams
Former Murrah High School star and NBA player Mo Williams accepted JSU’s offer to serve as the school’s new head coach. Williams spent the last two seasons coaching at Alabama State University.
