Kolb's Grand Cleaners is holding a grand re-opening celebration for its new location in Fondren (2800 N. State St.), one block away from the former Kolb's building.

As part of the celebration, which takes place from 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 30, Kolb's is hosting a social hour with drinks and food from Ted Dinkins. Customers can also write their names on the neon sign that hung outside the old building.

Established in 1926, Kolb's has two locations in Madison (1057 Highway 51 N.) and Brandon (Grants Ferry Road, Suite 111-A) in addition to the Fondren location. In addition to being the first dry-cleaning business in Jackson, Kolb's recently became the first dry cleaners in central Mississippi to implement a plant-based cleaning system, which uses natural products that are biodegradable, dye-free, nontoxic and never tested on animals.

Janie Pillow Moves to New Location

Brandon resident Janie Pillow opened her antique store, originally called Janie Pillow Christmas but now simply called Janie Pillow, off Lake Harbour Drive in Ridgeland in 2014, moving to Main Street in Madison in 2015. A few months ago, she relocated the store to a new location inside an old two-story house called Dorothy House (967 Madison Ave., Madison).

"I made the move to Dorothy House because I felt like Madison would be a great place for high-end antiquing," Pillow said. "The scale of people here ensures a good flow of items coming in. I have things like 300-year-old tables, tons of beautiful old-fashioned decorative ribbon and plenty of things that people just have to come see for themselves because it's more beautiful than I can describe."

To celebrate the opening of the new location and prepare for the holiday season, Pillow is offering a 20-percent discount on all non-antique Christmas items in the store. The store offers wreaths, garlands, table decorations for dining and breakfast tables, candles, porcelain figures, one-of-a-kind pieces of furniture and other unique antiques.

Hope Receives $50 Million Tax Credit to Aid Distressed Communities

Hope Enterprise Corporation recently received $50 million from the U.S. Treasury Department's Community Development Financial Institution Fund as part of the New Markets Tax Credit program, in which private investors receive tax incentives as a means to increase the flow of capital to businesses and low-income communities.

This NMTC allocation is the fourth that the organization has received. Hope will use it to invest in projects that benefit economically distressed communities across the Mid-South.

Hope provides affordable financial services, leverages private, public and philanthropic resources and promotes policies to increase job creation, stimulate new business development and provide affordable housing for low-income individuals.

Hope's NMTC activity has created and retained about 3,000 jobs and facilitated access to quality health care for more than 100,000 patients. In the past, the organization has financed projects such as a rural hospital for a persistent-poverty county, a charter school and a rural manufacturer that was at risk of moving jobs overseas.
