— The Durant Public School District has issued a press release regarding Senate Bill 2494 which would require its administrative consolidation with the Holmes County Public School District.

Durant Superintendent Edwin M. Robinson, who’s held the position for the past 8 months, says the citizens of Durant are vehemently opposed, and have been since House legislation required pre-consolidation reports from the two school districts last year.

Robinson, who says he was prepared to present those reports at the Senate Education Committee meeting discussing SB 2494, was prevented from speaking by Sen. Gray Tollison, Senate Education Committee Chairman and author of the bill.
