JACKSON, Miss. (AP) — With only days to go, it remains unclear whether Mississippi lawmakers will attempt major changes to the state's public school funding formula.

House Education Committee Chairman John Moore said Thursday that three House members appointed to negotiate have yet to make an offer to senators.

The Brandon Republican says changes that lawmakers have in mind are relatively minor.

Lawmakers have only fully funded the formula twice since it became law in 1997. Some legislative leaders have said in recent years that the formula needs to be changed to stop an increasing the share of money that some districts are spending on administration.

With weak state revenues this year, any changes could mean little. However, it could cut the funding gap, which Democrats have used to criticize Republicans in recent years.
