Nathan Glenn, owner of Jackson restaurants Rooster's and Basil's (both at 2906 N. State St.), will bring a new establishment to the city in early October. The Feathered Cow will be a premium, fast-casual restaurant focused primarily on burgers and chicken. The restaurant will be at 2760 Interstate 55 N. in the former Olga's location.

The Feathered Cow will feature a line of specialty burgers, chicken sandwiches, chicken and waffles, waffles with hot sauce mixed into the batter, a variety of salads and numerous types of fries, including butter fries, chili lime fries, chili cheese fries, tamale fries and sweet potato waffle fries. The restaurant also will offer a selection of craft beers from breweries such as Southern Prohibition and Tin Roof.

Glenn has enlisted the help of local artists to help decorate his latest restaurant including murals by William Goodman and chalkboard art by Bonnie Dickerson of Southern Sprout.

The Feathered Cow will have a price range of around $10-$12 for lunch and dinner, with a big focus on takeout. The restaurant will be open Monday through Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Ro'Chez Reopens on State Street

After being closed for three years while owner James Roache was abroad in Belize, Jackson fine dining restaurant Ro'Chez reopened two weeks ago in a new location at 824 S. State St.

Roache prides himself on offering an ever-changing menu at Ro'Chez, with a completely different selection each week known only to Roache himself before the menu goes up online at the restaurant's Facebook page.

Ro'Chez is open Thursday through Saturday, with seatings at 7 p.m. Meals consist of 5 courses at $50 per guest.

C Spire Announces Fiber to the Home Service

Jackson municipal leaders and C Spire executives announced in early September that Jackson will soon get ultra-high speed 1 Gigabit per second "Fiber To The Home" broadband Internet access, the Mississippi Business Journal reported.

C Spire, a telecommunications and technology services firm based in Ridgeland, also made plans with nine other Mississippi cities last November to provide 100-times-faster, next-generation Internet access and related digital HD TV, phone and home automation services. Jackson is the largest city to join the statewide initiative. The other cities are Batesville, Clinton, Corinth, Hattiesburg, Horn Lake, McComb, Quitman, Ridgeland and Starkville.

Homeowner pre-registration for Mississippi cities began last December. Since that time, local government, community and business leaders in Ridgeland, Starkville, Quitman and Horn Lake have rallied residents to pre-register at levels that qualified eight areas for the service. C Spire expects more areas in additional cities to qualify soon.

The Fiber to the Home website will feature a Jackson city map that C Spire will update to show detailed, interactive maps of the city divided into "fiberhoods." Individual neighborhoods will get Fiber to the Home if enough people in those neighborhoods sign up. The map will show what percentage of residents need to pre-register to turn an area "green" and qualify for the service. The site will also include progress bars for each fiberhood to show residents their success in getting neighbors, friends and others who live nearby to pre-register for the service. Registration goals for Jackson vary between 35 and 45 percent.

For C Spire customers, the 1 Gbps Internet access will be available for $70 a month, $90 a month for combined Internet and home phone, $130 for Internet and HD digital TV and $150 a month for the entire package of all three services. Non-customers must pay an additional $10 per month on all packages. C Spire will announce pricing for home automation services soon.

Online pre-registration for Fiber to the Home is open for Jackson residents at cspire.com/fiberhome. A $10 refundable deposit and credit-card information are required.

It seems to me like an unusual location choice.
