April 28 Tornadoes Damage and Recovery Figures

JACKSON, Miss. (AP) — Here's a look by the numbers at the damage caused by the 23 tornadoes that touched down April 28 in Mississippi as well as the federal aid and insurance activity since:

FEDERAL AID (through Oct. 24)

Counties eligible for government or individual assistance: 13.

Cubic yards of debris removed: 740,000.

Individual assistance applications approved by FEMA: 946.

Amount approved for individual assistance by FEMA: $5.8 million.

Amount of individual assistance that went for housing: $4.2 million.

Amount of federal assistance to local governments: $63.2 million.

INSURANCE (through Aug. 31)

Total insurance claims: 11,184.

Estimated total insured losses: $207 million.

Estimated residential losses: $110 million.

DESTROYED AND DAMAGED STRUCTURES

Homes destroyed and damaged statewide: 480 destroyed, 1,575 damaged.

Mobile homes destroyed and damaged statewide: 102 destroyed, 245 damaged.

Businesses destroyed and damaged statewide: 50 destroyed, 68 damaged.

Agricultural buildings destroyed and damaged statewide: 57 destroyed, 73 damaged.

Montgomery: 4 destroyed, 10 damaged

Neshoba: 2 destroyed, 16 damaged

Newton: 6 destroyed, 16 damaged

Rankin: 59 destroyed, 236 damaged

Scott: 1 destroyed, 2 damaged

Simpson: 5 destroyed, 23 damaged

Warren: 16 damaged

Wayne: 21 destroyed, 186 damaged.

Winston: 391 destroyed, 307 damaged
