Soul Wired Holds Crowd-Funding Campaign

Stacey "Soul" Winters, owner of Soul Wired Cafe (111 Millsaps Ave.), is holding a crowd-funding campaign through Indiegogo.com to make improvements to the business.

Soul Wired Cafe has been in business in Midtown for three years. The cafe, which has the tagline "Cyber.Eats.Beats," offers healthy cuisine with plenty of vegetarian items, geared toward getting people to eat right and is also a cultural venue that provides a mix of music, art, and poetry with plenty of soul.

Winters' goal is to raise $4,111 by the end of the campaign. She has currently received $440 with 42 days left to go. She will use the money to upgrade Soul Wired with seating for a new outdoor deck, outdoor wall murals, panini machines, an espresso machine and more.

"Soul Wired is intended to be a coffee shop, eatery, and Wifi hotspot by day, and a nightlife spot with live music and poetry by night," Winters said. "It just needs a little more to get there and serve patrons better, to be a truly great place to interact with people."

Donation incentives include free food, Soul Wired T-shirts, original artwork by Soul Wired artists, private event space, a mural outside the cafe and more.

"Soul Wired is a labor of love, and Indiegogo will let me take it to the next level," Winters said. "We're powered by the people here. I love people, and you'll always see a mixed crowd here. It's all about culture and expression."

Arsonist Targets Mama Hamil's

Around 4 a.m. Sunday, March 23, Bob Hamil, owner of Mama Hamil's Restaurant (480 Magnolia St., Madison), received a call informing him that the restaurant was on fire. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the state fire marshal's office, and Madison police are investigating the case.

"It apparently seemed that somebody had been throwing gasoline on my building and by the time I got here there was a hole in the wall," Hamil told reporters from 16 WAPT Jackson. "Around the backside, they have done damage (to) all my air conditioner units."


Madison authorities said the culprit tried to set fires at three spots outside of the building, all strategically out of view of security cameras. Investigators are conducting interviews and said more information should be available soon.



Friends of Hamil came to help repair the damage, and the restaurant is currently open for business.

The State Fire Marshal's Office is offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to an arrest, and has asked anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at 601-355-TIPS.

Outlets of Mississippi Offers Easter Promotion

Outlet's of Mississippi (200 Bass Pro Drive, Pearl) will host a special Easter promotion called Bunny on the Shelf from April 1 through April 18. Participating stores will place a rabbit toy somewhere on the shelves every day during the promotion.
