PASCAGOULA, Miss. (AP) — U.S. Sens Thad Cochran and Roger Wicker, and Rep. Steven Palazzo are asking the government to reimburse Jackson County for nearly $1 million spent on disaster recovery projects undertaken after Hurricanes Katrina and Isaac.

Jackson County is appealing FEMA's determination that its reimbursement claims on disaster recovery projects, including a hazardous storage facility, are ineligible for federal funding.

Cochran, Wicker and Steven Palazzo, all Republicans, say in a statement that Jackson County has made a convincing case for reimbursement for routine disaster recovery repairs that should be easily approved.

Jackson County spent the $993,491 on repairs to the Old Jackson County Courthouse repairs and the Heinz Building and Hazardous Storage Building, both in Pascagoula, and the Octavia Street boat launch and pier restoration in Ocean Springs, $55,512.
