JACKSON, Miss. (AP) — Management & Training Corporation, which operates four prisons in Mississippi, will use dogs to combat contraband entering its facilities.

Company senior vice president Odie Washington says in a news release the use of K-9 units will complement measures already taken by the Mississippi Department of Corrections such as 30-foot nets and body scanners.

Washington says the K-9 unit has two trained German shepherds, two primary handlers and an alternate handler. He says the K-9 unit will make unannounced visits to all four MTC facilities.

Utah-based MTC operates the East Mississippi Correctional Facility near Meridian, the Walnut Grove Correctional Facility in Walnut Grove, the Marshall County Correctional Facility in Holly Springs and the Wilkinson County Correctional Facility in Woodville.

Who cares about cell phones when our guys are mistreated and dying. In my opinion they are only after cell phones because they are afraid people will find out what really goes on.and loss of income from phone calls due to the profit or kickbacks generated by the high cost of legal phone calls paid mostly by family who are desparate for contact with family as MTC makes it so difficult to visit especially at WCCF. I WOULD LOVE to see the MDOC POINT SYSTEM in writing which can land people with any charges on c custody where it is so so hard to get retracted. jmo

Well, inmates have been known to order hits from inside prison with illegal cell phones.

It's prison, not a hotel. If it were up to me, they would be back working on a chain gang. Then they might think twice about getting locked up in the first place.

I, for one, sincerely hope that you're not in a position to make that call, js1976. 'Cause, you know, everyone serving time "deserves" the punishment they get, and no one ever gets an unfair trail, is never the target of overzealous or dishonest prosecutors, or--god forbid--actually innocent. [snark off]

How are those 2.3 million people behind bars in America (and the highest incarceration rate in the world) working out for you? Feeling good about that?

Are you serious? Please explain to me just how you came to the conclusion that I enjoy the fact that people are sitting in prison cells!

Yes, there are prisoners that have recieved unfair trials. However, I think it's safe to say that they are the small minority in our prison population. So yes, the majority of them are very deserving of working off their sentence. Excuse me if I don't feel sorry for murderers, rapists, and child molestors working their sentences off on the side of the road. Like I said, it might cut down on repeat offenders helping to reduce that 2.3 million.
