As a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?
A fireman and an archaeologist.
Describe your workday in three words.
Fun, hectic, educational.
What tools could you not live or work without?
A set of cheese knives and my cell phone.
What steps brought you to this position?
I was working full-time for the state and looking for a part-time job. I began working (at Whole Foods) part-time when it opened. When the cheese-monger position came available, I took it and quit working for the state.
What's the strangest aspect of your job?
All the different cheeses. I've got some cheeses that look like brains.
What's the best thing about your job?
Educating people about the product: our cheeses.
What advice do you have for others who would like to become a cheese monger?
Read Steve Jenkins' "Cheese Primer" (Workman Publishing Company, 1996, $16.95) and every other book you can find. If you still want to do this, then come on.
