"La Boheme" is the story of Mimi, a young frail girl, and Rodolfo falling in love. The four-act show, originally composed by Giacomo Puccini, was first performed in Italy in 1896.

More than 100 years after its first performance, the widely known and celebrated opera is coming to the Cinemark Tinseltown theater in Pearl. The production is part of the Metropolitan Opera's Live in HD series, in which 10 or so presentations screen at select theaters across the U.S. each year. Some of the other operas being shown across the U.S. this year include Mozart's "Cosi fan tutte" and Tchaikovsky's "Eugene Onegin."

Set in Paris, this passionate love story features recognizable music, sung entirely in Italian, said Eva Chien, senior manager for Live in HD's press and marketing. The showing at Tinseltown will feature English subtitles.

"If you've never seen this opera before, you would enjoy the beautiful music, the very touching love story and the beautiful production," Chien said.

The Metropolitan Opera in New York has performed "La Boheme" more than 1,200 times since its first showing in 1900, making it the most-performed opera in the company's history. Tinseltown shows Met Opera productions each year.

"La Boheme" will show at 11:55 a.m. April 5 at Tinseltown movie theater (411 Riverwind Drive), with an encore presentation at 6:30 p.m. April 9. April 5, the tickets are $22 for adults, $20 for seniors and $15 for children. Tickets for the April 9 encore presentation are $20 for adults, $18 for seniors and $14 for children.
