Bryan Doyle is reading the JFP election issue from 2008.

Name: Bryan Doyle

Location: Capitol Hill, Washington, D.C.

Age: 28

Occupation: Journalist, POLITICO

Lived in Jackson: in 2008

JFP reader since: 2006 during the beginning of Frank Melton saga. Served as music editor in 2008 for the JFP. Grateful that Donna also let me write about politics on occasion.

Favorite Jackson moment: "I have two. First I'd definitely have to say the election party at Hal and Mal's in November 2008. For my second, I wish to include a composite of memories from my time in Fondren: Fridays in Fondren, happy hours at Sal & Mookie's, walking to work on State Street. It's just an amazing place to live as a creative person, and I'm grateful for all the friends I made while I was there."

Last book read: "Otis! The Otis Redding Story" by Scott Freeman. For fans of the singer, it's a must-read.

Favorite Saying: "You can't use up creativity. The more you use, the more you have."

—Maya Angelou

Best part of the Election season: "I would say the political conventions in Tampa and Charlotte. Pure political theater, like what we see with the floor speeches, can be very entertaining if not inspiring. And yes, it's can also be fun to watch a disaster or two."

Worst part of the Election season: "Thinking about exactly how much money is being spent by outside groups this election cycle. Dave Levinthal and Ken Vogel at POLITICO along with the crew at ProPublica have done some amazing work reporting on Super PACS and their impact in this election. People need to be educated about the influence of these types of organizations, because they're also growing at the state and local levels."
