Legislators Working Late

Legislators are up against a deadline to pass bills out of the house where they originated.

Lawmakers worked late into the night yesterday to pass several controversial bills. The end of this week is the deadline for members of the Legislature to vote bills out of the houses where they originated and send them to the other chamber for consideration.

The House passed a bill to flesh out the new voter identification amendment yesterday, as well as anti-undocumented immigration legislation and an anti-abortion "heartbeat bill." Representatives also voted down a bill to revise workers' compensation laws.

The Senate passed the Sunshine Act yesterday, which would allow state agency directors to bypass the attorney general's office and hire their own attorneys.
