JSU to Perform ‘Antigone'

Jackson State University will present the Greek tragedy "Antigone" this weekend.

An ancient Greek drama will play out at Jackson State University this weekend as the Department of Speech, Communication and Theatre presents "Antigone."

In the play, written by Sophocles around 442 B.C., a young woman named Antigone seeks to honor one of her brothers with burial rights after he died fighting in a civil war. The king, who is also Antigone's uncle, declares that anyone who gives proper burial to someone who fought against him will be put to death.

JSU will hold performances in the Rose Embly McCoy Auditorium March 3 and 5 at 7:30 p.m. and March 4 at 3 p.m. For more information or to purchase tickets, visit the department website or call 601-979-5956 or 601-979-4309.
