4 Running in Miss. House Election in Rankin County

BRANDON, Miss. (AP) — Four candidates are running in a special election in northern Rankin County to fill a vacant seat in the Mississippi House.

Those competing in House District 59 are Scot Allen of Brandon, Benny L. Hubbard of Flowood, Bradley Lum of Flowood and Brent Powell of Brandon.

The election is Jan. 8 and a runoff, if needed, is Jan. 29. Special election candidates run without party labels.

Republican Rep. Kevin McGee of Brandon resigned Nov. 19 and agreed to pay a $10,000 fine to resolve an ethics case over public contracts that went to his family's company, Service Printers of Flowood.

McGee was president of the company, which was also owned by other family members. State ethics laws say public servants may not have financial interests in companies with government contracts.
