7 Arrested for Jail Contraband

— Seven people were arrested for allegedly trying to introduce contraband to a county jail.

It happened around 2 a.m. on Tuesday. According to the Hinds County Sheriff's Office, a deputy spotted two car loads of people tossing marijuana, cigars, cigarettes, three mobile phones, condoms, Xanax, a knife and other items over a fence at the Raymond Detention Center.

After the officers stopped the vehicle, they took three males, including a juvenile, and a female into custody. The occupants were charged with felony possession of a controlled substance in a correctional facility.

During the stop, officers stopped a second vehicle for also throwing a sock filled with contraband over the jail's fence. The four passengers in that vehicle were also charged with felony possession of a controlled substance in a correctional facility, according the sheriff's office.
