The Mississippi International Film Festival is scheduled for October in Jackson.

Art House Downtown Cinema brings Jackson independent and interesting films consistently. You have a chance to catch two films, "Blank City" at 7 p.m. and "Heartbeats" at 8:45 p.m. today at Russell C. Davis Planetarium (201 E. Pascagoula St.). It's $7 per film. Meet some new folks and talk about the films over coffee or drinks afterward. For live music options, check out Chimney Choir and Wooden Finger at Sneaky Beans or Velcro Pygmies at Fire. Lots of great options abound on the detailed JFP Best Bets page.

Saturday morning, get over to the Market in Fondren. It opens at 8 a.m. at 3270 N. State St. After lunch, go to the opening reception for Elizabeth Bennett's "Whimsy" art exhibit from 2-5 p.m. at Cups in Clinton. In the evening, catch the roller derby bout between the Magnolia Roller Vixens and the Torpedo Bay Roller Girls at 7 p.m. at the Jackson Convention Complex. Get the details on these events and many more (this doesn't even scratch the surface) on the JFP Events Calendar.

Saturday night is yet another diverse evening of music. "Symphony on the Square" is at 6 p.m. in the Canton Historical Square. "The Voice" gospel concert honoring radio personality Percy Davis at 7 p.m. at Word and Worship Church (6286 Hanging Moss Road), and includes music by Doug Williams, Da Minista and Benjamin Cone III. The Mississippi Community Symphonic Band and the River City Concert Band perform at 7 p.m. in the Belhaven University Center for the Arts (835 Riverside Drive). Not interested in classical or gospel music? For the live band and DJ scene, you know where to go for all the options: the JFP Music Listings.
Sunday, plan to attend the opening reception for the "Freedom Sisters" exhibit at 6:30 p.m. at Smith Robertson Museum (528 Bloom St.). This promises to be a fascinating exhibit. You'll find plenty more Sunday events on the JFP Events Calendar.

Looking for a place to eat brunch Sunday (or lunch and dinner whatever the day of the week)? Check the JFP Restaurant Listings and the Menu Guide for some of the area's best dining options.

Is your event included on the JFP calendars? To make sure, send the information to [e-mail missing] or [e-mail missing], or add your event yourself. It's easy!
