Fondren Gets New Consignment Store

After last winter's tornadoes damaged Vacita Jones' consignment shop "I'm Back" in Pearl, she decided to open another shop in Fondren's Duling School.

"Silly Billy's" hosts a soft opening today at 622 Duling Ave., Suite 205 B. The store features new and consigned clothing for men, women and children. Jones, a Los Angeles native who moved to Jackson nine years ago, opened the store with partners Rodale Hall and Randy McDonald.

Franchise to Open at One University Place

The Jackson City Council will vote today on whether to approve a $15,000 small business grant for a restaurant franchise located at Jackson State University's mixed-used development, One University Place.

Kwane Morris applied for a grant to open the Internet Cafe, a cafe that includes three franchises: Krispy Kreme Doughnuts, Chester's and Pizza Inn. The cafe will also offer wifi for patrons.

City of Jackson Acting Developer of Economic Development Mike Davis said the grant provides funds for the franchise's operational equipment such as stoves and computers.

The Internet Cafe, located on the corner of Dalton and John R. Lynch Streets, is expected to open in early summer.

Babalu Owners Start New Venture

Babalu Owners Bill Latham and Al Roberts are opening "Table 100," a new restaurant scheduled to open next month in Flowood.

Located at 100 Ridge Way Drive, the casual restaurant will feature southern and European cuisine while using locally grown products as much as possible. Menu highlights include crab cakes, steaks and lamb.

General Manager Paul Ruiter said Table 100 will create an old European ambiance with a baby grand piano, vintage lighting fixtures, ceiling fans and New Orleans-style cocktails.

The restaurant also features an official Table 100 that Mississippi artist Greg Harkins designed and built. Harkins typically cuts trees, mills lumber and builds tables and chairs by hand. Harkins has built furniture for notable figures such as Bill Clinton and Pope John Paul II.
